Some tips n tricks on how to convert a PDF file to Word, Excel or JPG format

February 27, 2009

Here are some tips n tricks to convert PDF to .Doc, .xls or JPG format.

  1. For online PDF conversion, go to ZamZar.com, browse for your file and choose PNG format for the format to conver to under (the PNG is another newer picture format that is slowly replacing the JPG format). And the latest image viewer program can now open PNG. Zamzar automatically converts each page in the PDF document into it’s own PNG picture file. Now you can simply open Microsoft Paint (yes, all you need it Paint!) and choose File - Save As from the menu and choose JPEG from the drop down list of formats. But if you want to save it as PNG, it’s okay… The other image conversion tool you can try is irfanview.

Convert your PDF to a Word document

  1. Open Zamzar.com again and click the Browse button next to Step 1 and choose your file. By default, Step 2 will be set to DOC format, but you can choose to convert your PDF to other file types such as TXT, HMTL, RTF, etc. Type in your email address for Step 3 and click Convert.
  2. You should receive an email within a few minutes with a download link to your converted file. I have tried out this service on some pretty complex PDF documents with text in multiple columns, multiple images, etc and have been very impressed with it’s conversion accuracy.

Convert a PDF file to Excel format

  1. We will again follow the steps above using Zamzar, but this time choose TXT as the format you want to convert to. Unfortunately, you can’t convert straight to Excel format, so we’ll have to go through the intermediary TXT format. Once you have downloaded the TXT file and saved it on your computer, open Microsoft Excel and go to File - Open and change the Files of Type combo box to All Files.
  2. Now you should see the converted text file in the list of files. Choose it and click Open. You’ll now be brought to the Text Import Wizard. You have to open the file in this manner because if you simply right-click and say Open With Excel, all of the text for each row will appear in the first column and not be separated.
  3. For Step 1, choose Delimited from the two options listed.
  4. Click Next and check off the Space checkbox as one of the delimiters. Each value should now be separated by a vertical line, indicating it’s going to be in a separate column.
  5. Click Next and then click Finish. You can now save the file as an Excel file by going to File - Save As. There are a few drawbacks, however, as this conversion does not always work perfectly! For example, if the original Excel sheet had a column where there was text with spaces included, each word will be separated into it’s own column! Also, you won’t see any formulas or functions that may have been in the original Excel sheet, only the text.

It’s very very easy! You can use many other image editing programs also such as Photoshop, Corel, Gimp etc, etc, but I chose Paint because that is universally available on just about every Windows computer. If you want, try gimp.

The Biggest Online Threat of 2009?

it was an interesting story by marketingpilgrim.

ReadWriteWeb reports that security firm Aladdin released their Annual Threat Report today, one of the biggest online identity theft threats of 2009 will be fake social media profiles. I don’t expect that to surprise any of Marketing Pilgrim’s readers, I do, however, expect it to come as a surprise to most of our clients and the less “Web savvy.”

Evil people are heading out to popular social media sites and setting up fake profiles and abusing those profiles. They are pretending to be someone in order to create valuable connections, and in some cases, to hurt online reputations. Director of Aladdin’s Attack Intelligence Research Center, Ian Amit, says this type of identity theft can be “devastating, both on the personal level by creating difficulties in employment, ruining social and professional connections, damaging reputations; as well as on a financial level, such as stealing customers, corporate data.”

Wow, it was later followed by the example of the evilness of this threat:

As you may recall, we reported on a horrible case in which a mother had created a fake social profile and bullied a girl to suicide. This report has a lot of merit, and this is a real threat that more businesses need to take seriously.

You need to ensure that you’ve secured social media profiles, and are constantly monitoring your online reputation. There are plenty of tools out there that can help like Andy’s social media monitoring tool, Trackur.

    Nice article, check it out.

How to be an asertive person, and not a boring person during conversation….

    February 21, 2009

Human is a conversation animal. We are a social creature. Without a decent conversation skill. We’ll be useless. Here’s some tips to increase your conversation skill.

    • Not to use the wrong word.

Never use the words or sarcastic remarks which will hurt the feelings of your conversation partner. Be polite, be courteous. Remember, you are talking to get your points across, get feedbacks, or to make people’s life better….not taunting or trying to ruin people’s day. You won’t get that many opportunities to talk to the person again if you mess this up. Remember, a single word can ruin a relationship which used thousands of words to build.

    • Talk about things which are related to the person you’re talking to.

When you’re talking to someone, make sure you are talking about something which is related to the person especially if the person is not very close to you. You won’t want to bore someone you barely know with your personal problems. Once in a while is okay…but if you continuously talk about stuff which is only related to YOU…sooner or later, the person will be frustrated and avoid you.

    • Maintain eye contact.

This is to avoid your conversation partner from wandering too far away during the conversation. It is also to show you are sincere in your conversation.

    • Make it a 2-ways communication.

Being courteous and polite are very important. Never interrupt a person’s conversation unless it’s something urgent or very important. Give people the opportunity to voice out their opinions. Make the conversation 2-ways.

    • It’s nice to be a good listener.

Sometimes, it’s important for us to play the role of a listener. Just pay attention to what your conversation partner is talking at that time (it could be your family, spouse, clients, colleagues, etc). If you’re paying attention and give some constructive and useful feedbacks….people will learn to appreciate you more. Yeah, I know, some people complain way too much to you….well, the only thing you could do is to make the person feel more positive.

Australian bush fire is still ongoing

    February 16, 2009

It was very shocking reading stories about australian bush fire. Heat everywhere. Even kevin rudd the PM said, it was like a Hell. Today, the deaths climb to 186.

Members of the Victorian police force’s Disaster Victim Identification team have spent days searching through the rubble and ash of fire-ravaged towns for anything that can identify those caught in the blazes.

In many cases very little, except small amounts of DNA and pieces of jewellery, remain. Police then have the painstaking task of cross-referencing the DNA with the long lists of missing persons.

Stephen Fontana, assistant police commissioner, said the job of identifying victims was a difficult and slow task but “had to be done properly”.

“We’ve actually got a team looking at unaccounted for persons and that’s checking… data that we have in terms of residents that lived in those areas, bearing in mind there may have been visitors to those areas,” he said.

Christine Nixon, the police commissioner, warned that more bodies would be found as police gained access to several properties previously too unsafe to access.

It’s also shocking news from here.

THE gruesome reality of the search through the rubble of Victoria’s fires has become clearer as police admit it is difficult to determine whether remains come from one person, or even if they are human.

Police today announced the death toll from the savage fires had risen to 189, only eight more than their last update on Thursday, and would continue to rise.

The revised toll included 40 from the hamlet of Strathewen from its population of 200, while 36 have so far been confirmed dead in Marysville which is expected to lose 100 of its 500 residents.

While 10 more victims were identified in Strathewen and 21 more in Marsyville, the number of dead has gone down in some areas after remains were fully identified.

The toll in the Churchill fire in Gippsland dropped from 21 to 10.

It’s very horror, i hope the firefigter can overcome this problem

Google’s New Lattitude can pinpoint your location.

It was an interesting article here. Multiple wireless technologies can help Google’s new Latitude pinpoint your exact location.

Yesterday, Google Inc. released the real-time location tool Google Latitude and opened up a new world of location-based services (LBS) for both PC and mobile phone users.

Latitude enables you to track friends, family, employees and so on — and vice-versa — in real time.

Can I use Google Latitude? According to Google, if you have any mobile device that supports Google Maps for Mobile v3.0 and above, you’re probably good to go. These include Android-powered devices with Maps v3.0 and above; most color BlackBerry devices; most Windows Mobile 5.0 and above devices; and most Symbian S60 devices.

In the near future, you’ll also be able to use Latitude on iPhone and iPod Touch with the Google Mobile App in the U.S., and on many Sony Ericsson devices.

Woot, google is very great. The technology leaps is very fast.
